Eglin Deployment

Nearly 700 members of the 33rd Fighter Wing prepared for deployment.

Some pilots in the group also served during the Persian Gulf War and they're ready to go again.

It’s a busy time for members of the 728th Air Control Squadron in the event of war -- they'll provide the ground support for the pilots of the 33rd Fighter Wing in coming days. The military personnel, along with their equipment, will be en route to the Middle East.

The 33rd operations group commander is no stranger to that part of the world. In the 1991 Gulf War, Colonel Jay Denney shot down two Iraqi Migs.

In coming days, much of the equipment will be loaded on large Air Force cargo planes and many supplies will be sent by ship to the Middle East.

National Guard members from across the country are helping fill the void at Eglin.
