Barbour County School officials have only a few more days to come up with a plan to keep the state from closing some of their schools.
Alabama's Department of Education Assistant Superintendent Robert Morton visited Barbour County on Friday.
At that time, he met with school board members, teachers, parents and other concerned citizens to tell them they had three weeks to come up with a plan to raise $200,000 for their schools.
Otherwise, the state will recommend consolidation for the school system.
County commissioners and school officials have been meeting since then in an effort to come up with a plan before the deadline.
The commission's next regularly scheduled meeting is Monday at 5 p.m., just one day before the deadline set by the state.
