About 15,000 tax bills went out telling taxpayers they had 10 days to pay overdue taxes or they would be turned over for collection.
Department spokeswoman Carla Snellgrove said the letters went out to people that had filed electronically. The said that despite the threatening letters, people still have until April 15 to pay their taxes.
The letters were supposed to be a reminder -- but a computer program kicked out a 10-day billing letter. Snellgrove said taxpayers should ignore the correspondence -- the agency has stopped sending them out.
