People from across the Tri-States will be Alabama bound this weekend. It's all for trains, trains, and more trains.

This weekend marks the 23rd Annual Wiregrass Model Railroad show in Dothan. However, some of these conductors have been part of the model train movement for much longer.

"I was about 4 years old, I think, when I got my first train and I’m 62 now so it's been a while,” said Danny Lewis, President of the Wiregrass Steel Wheels model railroad club in Dothan.

Doug Endres of the Miracle Strip model railroad club in Shalimar, Florida, said "I was 4 years old. My dad started me up with the old Lionel. I just kept on going.”

The family event will gather a crowd, and for 23 years, it's been the little engine that could.

“We have everything from Thomas the Tank Engine trains, going up to, sky's the limit on electric trains, all kind of train accessories,” said Lewis.

It’s a hobby passed down through generations.

“That's what this hobby is all about, is family. Some of these modules have been done by husband and wife, father and son,” explained Endres.

Vendors said, if not for the love of trains, they do it for the children.

"I love to watch them chase the train around. It’s the biggest kick,” Endres said.

It’s a kick that keeps chugging along.

The show runs from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, and 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday. Admission is $5 a person, and free for children 12 and under. It's being held at the National Peanut Festival Fairgrounds.
