Houston County Murder

A 67-year-old Houston County man confessed to the murder of his wife in open court Wednesday. Frank Bass is accused in the shooting death of his wife, Margaret Bass.

Authorities have charged Bass with murder in the shooting death of his wife. And, Bass doesn't deny it. The suspect was allowed to sit during his first court appearance, but before Judge Brad Mendheim could appoint an attorney to represent him, Bass confessed to the crime.

Fifty-nine-year-old Margaret Bass was shot in the head during a domestic dispute at the couple's mobile home East of Cottonwood. Deputies concerned for the woman's safety forced their way into the home when Bass refused to open the door Tuesday morning. But investigators said the woman may have been dead for some time.

Sources said Bass has no prior criminal history. His bond has been set at $100,000, but Defense Attorney Eric Davis said he may ask to have that amount lowered at a later date.

At last report, Bass was still being held in the Houston County Jail.
