The daughter of 59-year-old Margaret Bass reported that her mother failed to show up for work Monday night and that she was concerned for her safety.
Deputies went to the home Tuesday morning and found a man inside.
Houston County Sheriff Lamar Glover said the man told deputies his wife was home, but he refused to open the door and deputies had to force their way inside. Margaret Bass had been shot at least once.
Sixty-seven-year-old Frank Bass has been charged with murder. He's being held in the Houston County Jail. A handgun believed to be the murder weapon was recovered at the scene.
Sources said authorities responded to a domestic dispute at the home just a couple of weeks ago.
