Houston County Overlooked for Fed. Funds

Houston County has been overlooked for federal funding to resurface roads.

The federal highway bill, which comes before the legislature every six years, grants funding to various counties to redo roads.

The problem is, both the national association of county commissioners and county engineers overlooked 87 miles of roads within Houston County.

Now if there is a resurfacing project, the county will have to fund it.

Houston County Engineer Mark Pool says, "If we had any inclination that this was gone happen, we would have looked at those roads, we would have spent our federal funds on them before."

Roads must be resurfaced every 15 to 20 years.

The price tag can go up to $60,000 per mile.
