New Name for ESJC

School Desk

Recently the Alabama Department of Education announced the merging of Enterprise State Junior College with both campuses of Wallace Community College.

And now the two Wiregrass area colleges are looking for a new name.

On Tuesday night, the Enterprise City Council passed a resolution to be sent to the State Board of Education. The council wants to keep "Enterprise" as part of the school's new name.

A 40-member committee has been gathering input on what area residents would like to see.

A list of 25 names has been narrowed to three:

Alabama Community and Aviation College
Southeast Alabama Community and Aviation College
Enterprise State Community College

The public has until this Friday to give their suggestions. Just call Enterprise State Junior College at 393-3752, ext. 2226.

The merger should be completed by the end of next week.

A final decision on the school's new name will be made by the Alabama Board of Education next Thursday.
