Authorities in Escambia County say a preliminary investigation indicates a woman who was crushed to death by her own car was killed accidentally.
45-year-old Dianne Gibson Chavez was found trapped under a Ford
Taurus at her home near Dixonville Monday.
Sheriff Grover Smith said Chavez was crushed when her car lurched forward and rolled on top of her as she tried to start the engine with a wire rigged to the battery.
He said all unattended deaths in Escambia County are treated as homicides, but the facts in the initial investigation are consistent with an accidental death.
Smith said deputies, city police and rescue workers responded to the call around 8 a-m and Chavez was pronounced dead at the scene.
Neighbors had jacked up the car to try and free Chavez, whose boyfriend was asleep inside the home.
