Police say a former Dothan City School teacher was stabbed to death outside his home late Monday night. A 39-year-old man is charged with his murder.
Police allege that Eddie Carroll, also of Dothan, attacked 46-year-old James Bland Smith after he agreed to allow Carroll's estranged girlfriend to live with him. Authorities said Carroll and the unidentified woman were in the process of breaking up and Smith was a former boyfriend.
Smith, who taught school in the city for nearly 15 years, died of multiple stab wounds to the chest and abdomen.
Carroll was arrested around noon yesterday. He is being held today in the Houston County Jail under a 500-thousand dollar bond.
