The latest project by the city could be approved, and would result in the demolition of five residential properties. Those who live around these targeted houses say it's about time something is done with them. But nothing will be final until after tomorrow's commission meeting.
Under the "Housing Code Abatement Program," city officials inspect houses for code violations. Owners of the houses that don't meet the standards are given a variety of steps to improve the homes before city officials consider demolition.
Over the past 15 years, the city has demolished almost 250 buildings. Officials say there are several more times that number of buildings that still need to be removed.
