Grant Money

$40,000 in grant money is headed to Ashford, Alabama to revitalize the downtown area.

Gov. Bob Riley approved the grant and Ashford has committed $10,000 in matching funds for the project.

The money will be used to develop plans and strategies on how to go about revitalizing the city. After the study is completed, it will include a blueprint for rebuilding the downtown area.

It will address the problems of substandard building conditions, high vacancy rates, parking problems, overgrown lots and deteriorating public facilities.

Money for the project was made available through the community development block grant program of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
