Houston County’s first case of rabies has been confirmed by the health department.
A raccoon found January 12th at a Hodgesville Road residence has been tested and found to be positive for the disease.
There was no human contact with the rabid raccoon, though a couple of dogs may have been exposed to the animal.
The dogs’ owners say they are up to date with rabies vaccinations.
