Jones Appeal

Antonio Jones June 8th 2004

An appeals board is considering the case of a man who beat an elderly woman to death.

Twenty-two year old Antonio Jones was sentenced to die for the New Year’s Eve 1999 beating death of Ruth Kirkland.

DNA tests revealed that Kirkland’s blood was on his clothes.

The attorney general's office argued the state's case before the Alabama Court of Criminal Appeals in Montgomery.

Houston County District Attorney Doug Valeska put Jones on death row and he also attended the hearing.

A ruling from the appellate court is expected in three to six months.
