Instead of staying at home for the Martin Luther King holiday, Monday morning many soldiers went to Fort Rucker to meet with U.S. Senator Richard Shelby.
Senator Shelby listened to their concerns about the federal government.
Chief Warrant Officer 4 Joel Koon is stationed at Hunter Army Air Field in Savannah Georgia, and he just returned from Iraq three weeks ago.
While visiting his family in the Wiregrass, he came to see U.S. Senator Shelby about too much Republican spending.
Conservative Shelby told him that the republicans have to spend money, but it's not near what the democrats would be dishing out.
On other issues, Shelby said the I-10 western route is the best route for Wiregrass growth, and he admitted he will vote for Supreme Court nominee Samuel Alito.
Sergeant Adam Jackson is a 0-58 Delta helicopter mechanic at Fort Rucker and a father to three children.
He told Senator Shelby he wants the pay gap closed between civilian and military pay.
The questions and comments are going back to Washington with Senator Shelby as he begins a new year in the senate.
Senator Shelby also spoke more in depth about the Interstate 10 corridor to the Dothan rotary club.
