The search continues in the Columbus area in Georgia for two murder suspects who escaped from the Russell County jail early Saturday morning.
Police are looking for 17-year-old Johnny Earl Jones, who was charged with the murder of a two-year-old girl he was baby-sitting, and for 19-year-old Lamar Elan Benton, who was charged with the rape and murder of a 39-year-old mother of three.
Jones and Benton escaped after assaulting guards just after midnight Saturday. Brent Edward Martin, who was also in jail on murder charges, also escaped at the time but was captured on Saturday morning.
Russell County Sheriff Tommy Boswell says that during the assault, one of the guards, Matthew Waldrup, was stabbed about 15 times in the back with a weapon made of stiff wire and is recovering at home. Three other guards were also injured.
Police in Columbus and Phenix City, as well as Alabama State Troopers, are helping in the search.
The escaped inmates are considered armed and dangerous. Anybody
