Troops From Troy and Brantley Deployed

Two more Alabama National Guard units left the state Thursday, as the buildup continues to a possible war with Iraq.

The units include about 125 troops with the 226th Area Support Group of Mobile, and another 130 members of the 1670th Transportation Company from Troy and Brantley.

According to Alabama's military department, the units will be on active duty for as long as one year. More than 2, 400 Alabama Guard soldiers have been mobilized this year.

Guard spokesman Norman Arnold said 14 guard units are deployed outside the United States. Another 1, 500 Army reservists from Alabama are on active duty.

Nearly 4,000 part-time Alabama troops are on active duty. The buildup is not complete; more guard and reserve troops from Alabama are expected to be called to duty.
