The White House is heaping praise on Supreme Court nominee Samuel Alito's performance during this week's Senate confirmation hearings.
Press Secretary Scott McClellan says the proceedings showed Americans a man who's "brilliant, honorable and decent, open-minded and fair."
And he says there's no reason the Senate can't move quickly to confirm Alito.
McClellan says the only thing wrong with the week-long Judiciary Committee sessions was the questioning by Democrats. He says they
were often just "personal attacks" -- and adds, "The American people expect better."
