Dozens of lawmakers from both sides of the aisle are dumping contributions from disgraced lobbyist Jack Abramoff and his Indian tribe clients. Others, like Democratic Leader Harry Reid of Nevada, are keeping the money.
A third group of officials, including President Bush and New York Democratic Congressman Charles Rangel, are only giving back some of the Abramoff money which they say is tainted.
The justification for keeping the cash? Most say the contributions came from the tribes, not Abramoff.
Republican Congressman J.D. Hayworth of Arizona, the co-chairman
of the Congressional Native American Caucus, has gotten more than 150-thousand dollars from the Native American tribes. He's donating 22-hundred dollars to charity.
