The murder trial of a Dothan teen-ager ended suddenly on Monday after the young man changed his plea to guilty.
Eighteen-year-old Anthony Paul Bryan is charged with killing his brother and trying to kill his parents.
Bryan was just 14 years old when he was accused of murdering his older brother and wounding his mother in February of 1999. Seventeen-year-old John David Bryan was killed with a shotgun as he slept. Prosecutors claim Bryan also tried to shoot his father, but the man wrestled the gun away from the teen.
Anthony Bryan changed his plea from innocent to guilty after his mother broke down in tears on the witness stand.
District attorney Doug Valeska said he would still seek the maximum sentence for the teen. Because a gun was used in the crime, Bryan is facing a sentence of 20 years to life in prison. A sentencing date has been set for March 4.
