Times Square Ball

New York City is getting ready for the big ball to drop.

Workers have put the finishing touches on the crystal ball that drops at midnight in Times Square, marking the end of the year.

This year's theme is "Hope for Fellowship."

A new panel of Waterford crystal triangles was designed for the ball.

Waterford Crystal spokesman Pete Cheyney says the design is meant to recognize global togetherness. He says it has interlocking arms to show the "spirit of friendship and fellowship."

The ball is six feet in diameter, weighs more than one-thousand pounds and is lit from within by colored bulbs.
