Retired state employees and education workers, who got a four percent boost in their pension benefits October first will be looking for another seven percent when the Legislature convenes next month.
The Legislature approved the four percent in May and passed legislation expressing its intent to give another two percent on October first, 2006.
Janice Charlesworth, executive secretary of the Alabama Education Retirees, said yesterday her group expects to get that two percent that was promised, and it and will try to get the same five percent raise that the Alabama Education Association is seeking for active education employees for the fiscal year beginning October first, 2006.
