Fort Rucker Receives Award

A Fort Rucker Aviation Battalion received top honors Wednesday for excellence in leadership, training, maintenance and safety.

The Lieutenant General Ellis D. Parker Award is given to the Army's finest units each year.

Parker is a Wiregrass native and former commander of Fort Rucker. The award was created in 1993 for Parker's significant contributions to Army Aviation during his 39 years of service.

Parker and General Mark Curran were on hand for the ceremony.

This year, the first of the 223rd here at Fort Rucker won the award for all training units.

Two battalions from Fort Campbell, Kentucky took the top honors as the overall "top aviation battalions" for 2002. The same battalions also received the Combat and Combat Support Award.

A med-evac battalion from Fort Bragg was recognized for Combat Service Support.

All Army Aviation components world wide including active duty, reserve and National Guard compete for the prestigious awards.
