A Montgomery-based law firm is soon expected to file suit against the Alabama Department of Corrections.
The attorneys argue that the DOC has violated a judge's order to remove state inmates from county jails.
But Geneva County Sheriff Greg Ward says state inmates have "not" been a problem at his facility.
He’s been lobbying for a new jail due to overcrowding, but it's not state inmates that have caused the problem.
Sheriff Ward says DOC personnel have always been very responsive to his needs. He believes it's because Geneva is a small county.
He says “It’s easier to take our eight or nine, compared to the 50 or 60 from larger counties. We can get help from them now.”
Sheriff Ward says he has rejected the opportunity to join the lawsuit against the Alabama Department of Corrections.
