Jackson County Murder

The Jackson County Sheriff's Department needs your help finding a suspect in the murder of a fisherman.

The body of 62-year-old Benjamin Cowherd was found with a shot to his upper torso last Monday near the Christoff Ferry Landing.

Investigators say the victim was murdered Sunday, and though cash was found on him his wallet was stolen and his credit card was used hours after his death.

The card was used for gas twice within an hour on Sunday at this Tom Thumb Food Store in Cottondale.

The suspect also unsuccessfully tried to use Cowherd's credit card at a local ATM machine.

Police say Cowherd was murdered then his wallet stolen out of his SUV.

Investigators want to speak with anyone who witnessed suspicious behavior at the gas station on Sunday, December 4th between the hours of 5:15 and 6:15 pm.

A one-thousand dollar reward is being offered to anyone with information leading to the arrest of the suspect.
