NASA's investigation into the Columbia shuttle disaster turned to engineers at Huntsville's Marshall Space Flight Center.
One area under investigation is the external tank. Foam insulation fell off, striking the left wing during the Jan. 16 liftoff. The external tank portion of the shuttle program is managed by the facility.
Dominick Amatore, a NASA spokesman at the space center, said they are lending full support, specifically with video analysis and on the propulsion system.
He said Marshall also has a large engineering directorate that provides technical support to the space shuttle.
Amatore would not comment on how the probe might affect other projects at Marshall.
