Geneva County Weapons Course

Some Wiregrass area students are learning gun safety in a firearms course that provides them with one-on-one instruction. Many of the students are in their 50s, 60s and 70s.

Three days of classroom work culminates at the gun range. These men and women are learning the "dos and don’ts" in regard to firearms.

Geneva County Sheriff's Department Personnel provided the instruction and students learn the proper way to handle a gun and when it's justified force.

In today's increasingly violent society, authorities say it's important to know all aspects of firearms. The course is offered twice a year.

In this particular class, the oldest student was 78 years old. He said it gave him insight on when and when not to shoot a gun.

Geneva County Sheriff Greg Ward expects to hold his next firearm safety course sometime in March of April.
