America's Fight Against Terrorism

U.S. Congressman Terry Everett is trying to revive a controversial measure that would free President Bush's hands to seek the assassination of foreign leaders.

The Enterprise Republican has re-introduced the "Terrorist Elimination Act."

If approved, and it's never come close before, the act would override almost three decades of presidential directives outlawing covert assassination attempts on overseas leaders.

Former Georgia Representative Bob Barr championed the act for years with limited success.

Everett was one of 15 lawmakers who signed onto the bill as co-sponsors after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

Bush has not asked for Congress to give him such leverage.
