The Geneva County Commission has agreed to give the "go ahead" to a controversial measure.
With several petitions opposing a temporary jail, the board will now seek bids from companies looking to do the work.
The petitions state that the facility not be located behind the Geneva County Courthouse.
Opponents say it'll cut down on needed parking spaces and it will destroy the overall look of the facility.
Geneva County Sheriff Greg Ward says it will be adjacent to the current jail.
Previously, companies from Montgomery and Atlanta have expressed an interest in erecting the temporary jail.
The cost is expected to be around two-hundred thousand dollars.
