An unexpected crop on the rise in the Wiregrass.
Growing wheat is now a profitable business for Southern farmers.
The Alabama wheat and feed grain committee is holding a meeting to explain how to improve wheat production.
Doctor Stephen Harrison from Louisiana State University will be speaking.
"We planted wheat in the Southeast for years. A lot of people plant it for raising cattle or they plant it for cover crops or grain so it’s very popular,” said Brandon Dillard Wiregrass Extension Agronomist.
The 2012 Wiregrass wheat meeting will be held tomorrow at the Wiregrass Research and Extension Center in Headland.
A meal will be served at 5:30pm and the speakers will begin at 6pm.
