The Dothan City Jail and the Dothan Police Department have been evacuated Thursday afternoon.
Officials with the fire department told News 4 that during routine cleaning of the toilet system in the jail, a mixture of chemicals caused a cloud of noxious gas to flow through the building.
At this time, 13 individuals have been taken to the Southeast Alabama Medical Center and only one of them was taken under emergency status.
The Dothan Police Department supplied tents to avoid more evacuees being sent to the emergency room with heat related issues.
Just before 2 p.m. afternoon people were allowed to go back into the jail and the police department.
