In an effort to reduce waste, Wiregrass residents should pay more attention to what exactly they throw away.
Officials advise residents to look at your trash to decide if anything is reusable, repairable or useful for the environment.
Compost piles can help dispose waste and save natural resources, energy and disposal space and costs.
To avoid excess packaging, buy products in smaller sizes.
"Number one, you need to go all through and see what you throw away the most. Go through and say, ‘what all in my trash do I throw away the most, is it packages’, or whatever it is. Typically, in most households, it’s going to be some type of packages," said Urban Regional Extension Agent Phillip Carter.
