Perdue Plant Fire

Perdue officials have announced that Monday day-shift hourly employees should not report to work after a fire damaged much of the building Saturday afternoon.

But officials said they hope to get the plant running as soon as possible.

The Dothan Fire Department kept watch overnight Saturday to make sure the fire was completely out.

Investigators were scheduled to enter the building Sunday looking for clues to what may have caused the fire. Officials said the fire was in a building on the south side of the plant.

Saturday's workforce of nearly 25 employees was small compared to weekday crews. On average, more than 900 employees can be found working at the plant on weekdays.

Perdue Farms is the fifth largest employer in Houston County.
