Chipley Man Killed

Ambulance

An unusual accident has claimed the life of a Northwest Florida man.

It appears the victim was crushed by a tree.

Wayne Carey of Carey Auto Sales had hired James Matthews to cut down a 30-foot pine tree growing in the back of his car lot.

Bonifay Police believe a rope snapped and that created a whiplash effect.

The large branches of the tree are said to have knocked Matthews to the ground.

The 50-year-old Chipley resident died a short time later at an area hospital.

Bonifay Police are awaiting autopsy results before closing the case.
