Police initially thought 61-year-old Buford Bolin had fallen, until doctors discovered the extent of his injuries.
Police say a co-worker found Bolin lying in the bedroom of his home around 12:30 p.m. Tuesday afternoon. The elderly man was bleeding from the head and police initially though Bolin may have fallen and injured himself, but doctors later determined he had been stabbed. Police say the weapon may have been an ice pick or a screwdriver.
Police say nothing appears to be missing from Bolin's home and the man still had money in his wallet.
Crimestoppers is offering a reward for information in the case.
Bolin himself could hold the key to the case. Police say he was recently diagnosed with cancer and given only months to live. At last report, Bolin was still in a coma in a Dothan hospital. But doctors are hoping he will soon regain consciousness and police are hoping he'll be able to identify his attacker.
Sources tell News 4 that police may have recovered the weapon used in the attack.
