Houston County Farmer's Market Kicks Off

The Houston County Farmer's Market is in full swing. The purpose of the farmers market is to give you a one stop shop to buy local produce.

"The price of gas has such a pinch on everybody's finances right now. Our quantity might be more for the money," says David Bell, a local farmer at Bell Farms.

Farmers say they love being able to have a place to show off their hard work.

Bo Sanders with Bo Jean Farms says, "I've been coming for about 15 years and I come here because it’s close and we can sell a lot of stuff. People appreciate us coming."

"It's all fresh out of the fields. All of the stuff that you'll buy at a farmer’s market comes from within a 20 to 25 mile radius of Dothan. So, it's not hauled on trucks for several days," says Bell.

To go along with the fresh fruits and veggies, some farmers offer some preserves and bagged items.

The market will run until August with a new variety of produce each day.

The Houston County Farmer's Market will be every Tuesday, Friday and Saturday from 7AM to noon.
