On Saturday night, a mobile home fire claimed the life of 18-month-old D. J. Wise and seriously injured his older brother and sister. D.J.'s siblings were transported to the University of Alabama in Birmingham's Burn Center. Relatives said they are doing well.
One neighbor described it as a "shrine of love" over the last 24 hours. People have been tying stuffed animals and condolence cards to branches. The tree is located outside the Wise family's mobile home located along the Coffee-Covington Countyline, a few miles South of Kinston.
Opp-based Mr. Henry's has started a fund-raising campaign at each of it's 11 stores across the Wiregrass.
At 11 a.m. Saturday a fund-raiser for the family will be held at Opp's VFW Post 6622. Dinner will be served. The proceeds will be used to help with the medical expenses of the two surviving children.
The State Fire Marshall's Office is continuing the investigation as to the cause of the fire.
