Dothan Area Chamber of Commerce businesses are ending the year with more than $40 million in sales tax revenue for the city.
A banquet to celebrate those achievements was held last night at the Dothan Civic Center.
Reports show the city of Dothan has the largest sales tax revenue in the state of Alabama.
But outgoing Chairman Bob Theune says the cities success comes from more than just tax revenue.
Theune says “We're trying to not work on just economic development. There are many factors going into that as far as public transportation, into our children and what they are doing and how they are being educated and what the chamber can do.”
Rep. Seth Hammet says, “We’re doing some things right in our state. We have an unemployment rate that's one-point-one percent less than the nations rate and we got to keep working together.”
Next year the chamber expects more than 2,000 jobs will be added to the Dothan area.
