A settlement was reached this week at the Elba courthouse in one of the oldest active civil cases still on file.
It dates back to 1994 when a number of landowners filed suit against the Coffee County Commission for construction of the sanitary landfill in the Victoria Community.
The suit stems from claims by nearby landowners that they were not properly compensated when the commission voted to build the facility.
In the suit, they claimed the landfill would endanger their underground water supply and it would create foul odors, noise, vermin and garbage would find its way on their land.
Over the last twelve years, most of those individual suits have been settled out-of-court.
Attorneys for the two remaining families also settled with the county for an undisclosed amount of money.
