Wicksburg Fire

The blaze on Highway 123 near Wicksburg High School was well involved before someone reported the house was burning about 10:30 p.m. Saturday.

Volunteer firefighters from Wicksburg and Bay Springs responded to the call.

Wicksburg Fire Chief Todd Smith said flames had already broken through the roof when they arrived and it took some two hours to bring the blaze under control.

The home was unoccupied at the time of the fire.

Smith said the house had recently been remodeled and a family was in the process of moving in but they lost only a few of their personnel possessions.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but Smith said it may have been started by an electrical problem in the attic.
