Toll Road Impact on Small Florida Town
A small, northwest Florida town may be in the thick of the action if a toll road from the Gulf Coast to Montgomery becomes a reality.

A small, northwest Florida town may be in the thick of the action if a toll road from the Gulf Coast to Montgomery becomes a reality.
Graceville officials say their town is on the rebound. Recently, a 1500 bed, privately run prison brought hundreds of new jobs here.
In addition, there is new life in the lumber industry, and now, there's word of a possible toll road to be built between here and Campbellton.
Recently, Barbra Payne opened a banquet business. She's excited about the news. She says. "I think it sounds great, not only for Graceville, but the surrounding communities as well. [It] will help bring back downtown; we spoke about it before even hearing this news."
Patrick Woolley and his family own 600 acres of land in the general vicinity of where the toll road may go through. He's taking a ‘wait and see’ approach.
"I got a lot of land, but I’m wondering where exactly it'll be built, and I have a lot of questions concerning this,” Woolley says. “I'm not ready to give an exact opinion."
Several Graceville business that News 4 spoke with said it'll bring more traffic, but they don’t know how much more business.
Harold Smith, with S&W Auto Parts said, "We have mostly local business; I don't see how much it'll really bring us at the auto parts store."
City officials are also waiting to hear all the details before commenting on the toll road proposal.
City officials say they would expect an interchange ramp to be built off the toll road into Graceville.
