House Majority Leader Tom DeLay
House Majority Leader Tom DeLay is due in a Texas courtroom next month to face a conspiracy charge involving campaign finances.
The Texas Republican has been charged with conspiring with two political associates to use corporate donations to support Texas legislative candidates. That's against state law.
The charge forced him to relinquish his majority leader post. But a GOP spokesman says DeLay will serve as what he calls a "very powerful adviser" to the Republican leadership.
DeLay's lawyers are trying to avoid having their client handcuffed, photographed and fingerprinted for his October 21st court appearance.
