The October political calendar is getting crowded.
Former Governor Don Siegelman says he plans to kick off his campaign for governor next month with a statewide tour. He says he will visit businesses that came to Alabama while he was governor.
Siegelman is running for the Democratic Party nomination. He said that he originally planned to begin his campaign kickoff on October eight. But he says he decided to wait because Governor Riley is expected to announce his plans at a birthday party in Birmingham on that date.
Ousted Chief Justice Roy Moore is to disclose if he will run for governor on October three.
Siegelman will face Lieutenant Governor Lucy Baxley in the Democratic primary. Baxley has already opened a campaign office in Montgomery.
But Baxley says she has not scheduled a formal announcement.
Siegelman says his announcement won't be made in a party atmosphere. He says he will focus on what he hopes to accomplish if
elected to another four years in the governor's office.
