Abbeville School Setback

School Desk

Students have been taking classes in portable buildings and school officials had hoped to have them back at the main campus by early next month. But, they could be stuck in temporary facilities for months.

Superintendent Billy Davis said the state's risk management division has called in another insurance carrier and the process of evaluating damage to the main campus has started from scratch.

Davis said he wants to get students out of portable classrooms and back at the main campus as soon as possible, but he also wants the job done right.

Davis said the move back to the main campus has been delayed at least until Spring Break and possibly until the beginning of the next school year. Any decision on building a new high school has also been postponed.

Davis hopes to have the insurance adjusters report with a breakdown on cost estimates sometime next week.
