Political consultant Lanny Young testified Tuesday that it took him less than two weeks to earn $500,000 from Waste Management, Inc. by getting state revenue officials to reduce the tax on waste deposited at the company's Emelle landfill.
Young, who has close ties to Gov. Siegelman, succeeded in getting the Revenue Department to agree to a change in its tax rules in July 1999, about six months after Siegelman took office and only days after Waste Management hired him.
Young said that he didn't know the exact number of days, but it was less than two weeks.
His testimony came in the trial of a lawsuit filed against him and others by his former partners in a landfill venture in Lowndes County.
