MINNEAPOLIS - Northwest Airlines has become the first carrier to resume scheduled service in and out of Gulfport-Biloxi International Airport.
Northwest is resuming two of its three daily flights between Gulfport and Memphis. Scheduled service into hurricane-devastated New Orleans remains suspended indefinitely. A Northwest spokesman says the third Gulfport flight was canceled because it would have required the crew to stay overnight, and there's no room in local hotels. One of the flights will be a Northwest DC-9, the other is a smaller jet operated by one of Northwest's regional carriers.
Delta Air Lines plans to resume flights out of Gulfport on Sunday, AirTran on Tuesday, and Continental on September 19th, according to the airport's Web site.
