A Level Plains police officer who admitted taking bribes in exchange for waiving traffic tickets has resigned.
Fifty year old Leonard Sherwood is charged with two felony counts of bribery.
Investigators say Sherwood targeted Hispanic men for traffic tickets and then took cash for not charging them with the offense.
State police and Dale County authorities had been investigating Sherwood since June.
The district attorney will ask a judge to revoke Sherwood’s police certification and permanently ban him from ever serving as a police officer.
He was released from the Dale County Jail after posting bond.
