It happened at D & J Grocery Mart on Linden Street around 7:30 p.m. Saturday.
The owner told police a black male about 30-years-old entered the store, and then just grabbed the cash register and ran.
Patrol units responding to the call spotted the suspect about a block away and grabbed him. They also recovered the cash register.
The suspect was identified as Antonio Craig. He is charged with first-degree theft of property.
