A condemned killer with a new lease on life will stand trial in a Dothan courtroom later this month.
Attorneys for 29-year-old Dennis McGriff had filed a motion to move the trial to another jurisdiction because of pre-trial publicity.
But, Judge Ed Jackson denied that request following a hearing Tuesday morning.
Mcgriff was convicted and sentenced to die for killing Michael McCree during a drive-by shooting in 1996.
But late last year, the Alabama Supreme Court ordered a new trial because the original jury was not properly instructed before beginning deliberations.
McGriff's re-trial is scheduled to begin August 22nd at the Houston County Courthouse.
