An Alabama lawmaker is helping Dothan police teach students about the dangers of drug abuse.

State Rep. Locy Baker of Abbeville presented checks totaling nearly $4,000 to Police Chief John White Wednesday. The money will help fund the department's drug education program.

The Dothan Police Department begins teaching students about the dangers of drug abuse in the third grade. The department also maintains uniformed officers on both high schools and all four middle schools on a daily basis.

Baker said the money comes from a special legislative committee that oversees funding for drug education programs.

Baker also presented checks to Houston County Sheriff Lamar Glover and Henry County Sheriff Lawton Ed Armstrong to help fund drug education programs in their jurisdictions.
